Maria Baraka

Maria Baraka, 17, was born into a traditional Maasai family. Her parents are unemployed. Her father practices polygamy, and her birth mother is his first wife. Maria is the fourth of nine daughters from her birth mother. Maria has three other young sisters staying with her grandmother who is 73 years old and are going to primary school nearby. Three of Maria’s older sisters were married by force and earlier marriage, Maria’s father
received the dowry for her all daughters soon after their birth, One year ago, her mother divorced for the sin of giving birth to nine daughters.
Maria completed standard seven and stayed at home with her mom, waiting for her results. The husband-to-be arranged by her father comes and takes for marriage. Finally, Maria received her results and passed with an excellent grade. She was then assigned to join her secondary education.

Maria managed to find her way to her uncle, hoping to explore options for continuing her education. Maria’s future dreams and her mother would be greatly impacted if she found a sponsor.
